To get a long stay visa for self employment you will need a Nulla Osta from Questura.
Questura is the primary police station in the city.
Nulla Osta means that they have no problem with you relocating.
There is a quota limit on this visa type for each country in each year, so this will be checked.
As far as I know this is the only thing that they check at that point.
Before going there, go to a Tabaccheria and buy a 16 Euro marca da bollo which is a stamp you will need to give the officer so he will put on your request form.
In Milan, I went to the Questura (immigration office) which is located in:
via Montebello 26
20121 (MILANO – MI)
Telefono: 02.6226.1

There was a long line of Africans waiting for something. My guess is it wasn’t to join the Italian police forces…
There was an information desk, I said what I need and he referred me to a back room without having to take a number or waiting in line.
I asked the officer inside if she speaks English.
She thought about it and said yes.
Unfortunately, ‘Yes’ was the only word she knew. ?
She asked to see my original passport, and a copy of the passport page.
She seemed unsure of what she needs to do in my case but as soon as I showed her the documents that I received from Camera di commercio she understood.
I also gave her my AirBnb rental agreement that I signed with the home owner. They have this thing about wanting to see original documents with original signatures, and then they like to go over the signature with their finger. I don’t know if they can sense anything but I think it makes them feel good doing it.
So make sure to have an original contract with an original signature.
She asked for the marca da bollo and said to return in 5 days to get it.
